My Blind Date

BLIND DATE

As I drive I head towards a place I have never been.  I have directions and I have descriptions.  I have an idea of what I will see but I know not what I will feel.  I stop and I see a red light beaming down on me.  From within the corner of my right eye, I imagine that it's telling me not to go.  Then I see a flicker and the light turns green.  I go but I want to turn around and say 'Fuck it' but I don't.  I just keep moving.  The air feels tighter as I see the name of the place I am supposed to be.  I brake abruptly and and swallow hard.  I am hot, my head is pounding, or is it my heart.  I think I still have time to leave before anyone sees me and notices I'm meeting a person I have never met before.  But still I go.  I park and a driving force drags me from behind the safety of my steering wheel.  I walk clumsily towards the giant looking door of this place where I am meant to be.  Just as I reach up and wrap my hand around the handle on the door, it opens and I fall forward.  Oh My God I think as I slowly feel myself coming in contact with the floor.  My face alight, red hot and sweaty, I somehow find my feet and stand again.  Now I must leave before the date I am meant to meet notices me.  But the hand that opened the door and let me fall touches me lightly on my shoulder.  I spin around with fright thinking I was the only one that had seen me fall.  I was wrong, he had seen it all.  Now he calls my name questioningly.  I want to die as I admit to being who I am.  He smiles and opens the door for me.
